Here are a few useful tools and sites providing what we think is good advice or information:

Firefox is an excellent web browser and the variety of enormously useful add-ons make it an essential web development and SEO tool:

Firefox Web Browser: Get the latest version of Firefox
Google Toolbar for Firefox: Essential google tools in your Firefox toolbar.
Web Developers Toolbar: The Web Developer extension adds a whole bunch of enormously useful web developer tools to your Firefox toolbar.
Search Status: Search Status is a really useful tool that provides performance information for any visited website.
SEO Quake: An enormously useful tool that provides many of the commonly required SEO metrics on any site.
View Source Chart: View Source Chart presents page source code in a user friendly colour coded display making it easy to locate page elements of interest.
SEO Link Analysis: Excellent tool that provides additional metrics directly from Google Webmaster Tools, Yahoo etc. Highly recommended.

Here are just a few freely available tools and resources that we routinely use in our SEO work:

Xenu Link Sleuth: Xenu Link Sleuth is a neat link checking tool that will thoroughly test a site for broken links. It produces handy reports with lots of details that are great for SEO and site testing.
Sam Spade: Sam Spade is a freeware network utility package with lots of neat IP tools including ping, nslookup, traceroute, SMTP verify and more. Great for finding out where a site is actually hosted.
Google Webmaster Tools: Google Webmaster tools are completely free. All webmasters should get to know these excellent free resources from Google.
Overture Keyword Selector Tool: Excellent resource for checking out how popular various search terms have been. Site is not always up.
Google Keyword Selector Tool: Regardless of whether you are using adwords, this is a very handy tool for keyword ideas.
List of Useful SEO Tools (Jan. 2007): Here is a potentially useful list of SEO tools from early 2007.
UITest: Site validation and test tools.
Touchgraph: Touchgraph is a cool tool that provides a neat visual representation of sites and interlinking. Requires Java run time environment.
