Parts of a URL - According to Google

This blog post from Matt Cutts entitled “Talk Like a Googler - Parts of a URL” got me thinking about the ways in which I have (mistakenly) referred to the various elements that make up a URL. The subsequent discussion thread also makes for an interesting read.

If you, like me, attempt to teach young students the details of the web and all its mysteries then clear terms of reference are very important so many thanks to Matt Cutts for providing this clarification.
